Rubberized bitumen and asphalt

Rubber-asphalt covered roads are well-known for several decades. Yet it is a considerable drawback for spreading of technology that rubberizing of bitumen with conventional crumb needs special equipment and technology due to inactive chemical properties of the conventional rubber crumb. By application of waterjet rubber granulates a chemically stable rubber bitumen formula has been developed by researchers of the Pannon University and the Hungarian Oil & Gas Company. After successful laboratory experiments the industrial tests produced good quality rubber bitumen for test-roads in different Hungarian towns. Thespecial advantage of chemically-stable rubber bitumen is that there is no need for expensive special equipment for road constructions, as the asphalt pavement can be constructed just with the existing conventional machinery.”
